The Coastline
Along the Yorkshire Heritage Coastline are many picturesque fishing
ports, including Whitby (former whaling port and home of Captain
Cook and Bram Stoker of Dracula fame) and Robin Hood’s
Bay (once notorious for it’s smugglers – now famous
for its steep cobbled lanes and picturesque harbour).
The coast around here is also famous for its Dinosaur fossils,
especially at Ravenscar and Runswick Bay - rock pool safaris and
fossil hunting days (including looking for dinosaur footprints)
take place all summer. As if that is not enough, the coastal cliffs
are ideal for all kinds of bird life including puffins, cormorants
and gannets at the RSPB centre at Bempton, near Flamborough Head.
